French Fashion Style Guide

"Guide to Chic French Womenswear and Clothing!"

French fashion style. Outfit from promod.com

French Fashion Style. So sleek. So chic. That's what I associate with French womenswear. The main reason why I created this page is to simply inspire you to implement the "less is more"-philosophy French women have had for several decades.

The French have been the pioneers of chic fashion for hundreds of years. From Chanel to Givenchy, they all share the same vision:

Smart, timeless, sophisticated yet feminine style!

You can easily notice French womens simplicity in their style. Yet they ooze of discreet sexiness that can make any man fall off their feet.

If you find French fashion appealing and you want to implement elements or the whole style of it into your very own, then you came to the right page. Oh yes, oui oui!

Not Every French Woman Dress Alike

Have in mind that not all French women dress like this. This is just a guideline that describes the foundations of French clothing style -- and you know, what's "typical" French.

Our world is pretty globalized so different types of ethnic cultures and younger generations have affected the way younger French women dress.

Like for example, take a look at these unconventional French fashion outfits:

Cool French street fashion urban outfits
As you can see, French fashion isn't always sleek. But you can still see some French hints in their outfits. Like the beret hat and couture'ish fur jacket to your left. And do you notice that the other girls are wearing blazers? But in different, slightly trendy designs?

Anyway. Let's put urban and grunge style to the side. You and I are going to focus onsleek, sophisticated French style:

Key Elements of French Fashion

What really sets French women a part from the rest is their sense of style, and not necessarily sense of wearing the hottest trends. Style and fashion are two different things. Style is more of how mix clothes to present your personality and not to mention your best features.

Personal Fashion Style

Your Guide to Creating Your Own Unique Personal Style

Finding your personal style

Let me begin by saying that finding your personal fashion style is really, reaallly about getting to know yourself. It's about being confident in who you are! Creating your own personal style is the art of combining your taste, lifestyle, interests, desires, inspirations, aspirations and history together as one and let it shine through.

Improving your fashion style is a part of the self-development process that helps you achieve a sense of the confidence and comfort in the person you are. Often this self-acceptance will radiate through the way you dress and attract the same admirations clothes-horses like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe are (still) getting.

Their trick? Well, they knew that they didn't need to have a certain look to look good. Instead, they accentuated their individuality.

Fashion icons Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn

Marilyn Monroe had the curves and personality to create that feminine, sexy image which she was known for. Imagine if we put her signature halter dress on slim-trim sporty and sophisticated Audrey Hepburn? Uh-uh, big mistake. That would emphasize her thin arms and enhance her boyish shape. Imagine how out of place she would feel! Audrey's straight, minimal tee shirt and pants on Marilyn? Don't get me started ;-)

See why some trends and clothing styles you see in magazines just don't look good on some people?

Together we're going to help you find and evolve your own personal fashion style. We're going to take a look at different clothing personalities, help you identify yours and enhance to create something unique and completely you :-)

So What Exactly Is A Clothing Personality?

It's your head-embedded tendency to instinctively choose particular type ofclothes. This natural tendency will 99.9% of the time match with your true inner self. But why do we all keep making mistakes? That's because of the influences surrounding you (it could be a parent, a group of friends, social position, career path, etc.) - this basically means that you're not quite 'in-tune' with your preferences.Together we're going to do some 'fine-tuning' between your wardrobe and self!

Current Fashion Trends

Guide to Help You Stay Trendy and Chic

Current fashion trends Balmain runway

Now let's talk about the current fashion trends that create the (sometimes crazy) excitement in a season. We all know that the latest fashion trends keep your style and wardrobe fresh; injecting glamour, wit and spunk, the extra *ooomph* -- making you feel more alive! But c'mon let's face it, when the trends are at their exaggerated worst, head-to-toe looks, -- well, you'll end up looking completely ridiculous.

When you gain a basic understanding of what trends flatter your lifestyle and personal style you'll notice that your spending habits will improve. With my advice and tips on the latest trends you'll become chic without looking like freaky fashion victim! No pun intended, it's just how I describe "fashionistas" who look like they're wearing an over-wrought stage costume (*cough* Lady GaGa)
.
How to Know If a Trend Looks Good On You

A trend has zero worth if it doesn't compliment your appearance or if you can't at least find a way to work beautifully for you. Do some homework by assessing your appearance, from head to shoulder. From the undertone of your skin to the contours of your body. Not sure how to do that? Well, come on in here and let's build (and improve) your personal style from the ground!

Street Fashion Trends

The Best of Street Style from Around the Globe

Global street fashion style

Image credit: Easy Fashion, Istanbul Street Style, Sartorialist, Mnlstyle, Hel-Looks

Some of the best outfit ideas are from the London street fashion and New York street fashion. Well, in fact, from everywhere really! If you're tired of mainstream fashion established by well-known designers in fashion houses and designs, than street fashion style inspiration is something for you!

So What Exactly is Street Fashion?

It's style created by youth culture -- mostly young people on the streets of large urban areas. They don't necessarily follow what's "in" but they often put together outfits that reflect their personality and mood. And since they've create something that's totally them, it looks so good because they feel comfortable in it! It is usually a bit eclectic - very mixed but up-to-date.

How Do You Achieve Street Style?

You'll have to experiment and express yourself with pieces that reflect your personality.

Mix your overall style with quirky and unconventional pieces that reflect your "other personality". Like for example a classy blazer look with a pair of geek-chic glasses to. Studded boots. Or how about adding a pair of vintage Mary-jane shoes? It's a lot about putting together an outfit that has a "hook". Learn more about it in my outfit ideas-series.

Street fashion is all about looking casual, showing personality and having fun!

Rachel Zoe Fashion Tips - What She Hates, What You Want

Interview with Rachel Zoe, the celebrity stylist turned multi-media mogulina.

We love the allure of the red carpet-- but come on-- having great style is not only about the fantasy but having a wardrobe that works for you in your life. So we asked Rachel what she thinks YOU should have in your everyday wardrobe this fall.

Rachel Zoe

Rachel Zoe’s’s Top Five Fashion Fave’s for looking on trend this fall (plus, a bonus tip):

“I think that sexiness should be in the subtleties, says Rachel.”

1. Some sort of kind ofchunky knit sweater that you can kind of throw over everything.

2. A very classic, verytailored tuxedo jacket.

3. I think the perfect leather jacket; whatever suits your body type.

4/5. A trench coat and a black patent pump is always a must.

Bonus Item: “If you’re a little more daring do anankle boot because it’s not going to go out of style. We just keep seeing them season after season at this point.”

We know that her signature involves major accessories, bold statement pieces, and her love of vintage costume jewelry. For you, Rachel suggests, “Over the knee, thigh-high boots. Very large statement necklaces and big cocktail rings, things like that.” Yes, you can nab some budget-friendly versions with her Rachel Zoe line at QVC or via her picks at Piperlime.

What what to avoid? What wrecks havoc on someone’s style? What are Rachel Zoe’s pet peeves?

Her hates are our hates, “I think that sexiness should be in the subtleties, says Rachel.” “I don’t think that overt sexiness is something that reads very classy. I don’t think that people should wear dresses two sizes too small. I just think that sexiness is better left to the imagination. It’s just more tasteful.”

“I think that sexiness should be in the subtleties, says Rachel.”

Season 3 of “The Rachel Zoe Project” will bring more style tips and fashion excitement. The first episode happens to have her most memorable photo shoot to date. “It was quite challenging because we had some moving props. Definitely a first for me in my career but yet I think we made one of the most iconic photographs. So it was well worth it.”
